I can be honest with you - the mission statement on this blog tells you what a tightwad I am - and admit that I bought this cheese because it was on special offer.
I like to have cheese in, and I like to try different varieties - it comes from having lived in France, where une journée sans fromage est comme une journée sans soleil.
Granted, it's nothing like what you see in France, but most supermarkets these days have a decent cheese counter, for which we should be grateful. There are lots and lots of excellent English cheeses, too.
However... I couldn't entirely see the point of this one. I'd never heard of white Stilton before, but Wikipedia says it's stilton that hasn't had the mould put in.
It's white, crumbly, and with a very mild flavour. A bit like Wensleydale, I suppose. And there's the problem, really - there are plenty of nice, mild, white cheeses - and someone who buys Stilton probably doesn't want one of those. Someone who wants Stilton wants strong flavour - and someone who's looking for a mild, white cheese is unlikely to buy anything with a Stilton name-tag on it.
Perhaps that's why it was on special offer. Perfectly nice, and we will finish it, but I can't really see the point of it and I wouldn't buy it again.
